Benzema aims to make return from injury in derby against Atletico Madrid

Karim Benzema will miss out on Real Madrid‘s Champions League duel against Inter on Tuesday and he is doubtful for the derby against city rivals Atletico Madrid next Sunday.

The Frenchman picked up a knock in Los Blancos’ 2-0 win over Real Sociedad on Saturday and had to be replaced in the first half of the duel.

Real Madrid‘s medical staff examined Benzema both at the Reale Stadium, as well as at Valdebebas on Sunday, but they are awaiting the finals tests that he’ll undergo on Monday.

Benzema felt a discomfort and asked to be subbed off during the game, with the club being confident that he has avoided a serious injury.

Luka Jovic, who scored a goal and registered an assist after replacing Benzema against Real Sociedad, is expected to start up front against the Nerazzurri.

Eden Hazard could be another option in attack, but the Belgian forward has fallen down Carlo Ancelotti‘s pecking order in the last few weeks.
