Cristiano Ronaldo, McFred & more: The key talking points from Ralf Rangnick’s first Manchester United XI

Manchester United vs Crystal Palace

Ralf Rangnick will take charge of his first game as Manchester United boss shortly.

The Red Devils are set to play host to a Crystal Palace side who have failed to win their last three outings.

Man United, meanwhile, have improved of late, picking up wins over Villarreal and Arsenal whilst also drawing with Chelsea.

Ralf Rangnick’s first Manchester United XI

Ahead of kick-off in Manchester, both sides would, of course, release their starting line-ups an hour before the game gets underway.

And this would, obviously, be Rangnick’s first XI as Man United boss.

So, fans were no doubt eager to see what changes the German would look to make.

In truth, though, there was very little that Rangnick, on paper, seems to have changed up so far.

Before he joined the club, there was some concern that Cristiano Ronaldo would struggle under Rangnick due to his intense pressing style. Despite this, CR7 would be handed a start in Rangnick’s first eleven.

Elsewhere, though central midfield has been a problem area for some time now, Rangnick opted to stick with the midfield pivot of Fred and Scott McTominay, also known as ‘McFred’, whilst there was no place in the starting eleven for Donny van de Beek.

The other main talking points from the United XI to take on Palace were Aaron Wan-Bissaka once again missing out for Diogo Dalot despite the Englishman having been the Red Devils’ no.1 right-back for some time now and, Mason Greenwood once again being confined to a bench role.
