Marcelo Bielsa with the latest on Leeds’ double injury blow and Pascal Struijk’s absence vs Brentford

Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa has spoken out over the wellbeing of all of Kalvin Phillips, Liam Cooper and Pascal Struijk, on the back of his side’s meeting with Brentford.

Bamford at the death

The Whites marked their return to action a short time ago, in one of a trio of lunchtime Premier League kick-offs.

Bielsa and co. welcomed Brentford to Elland Road, hopeful of making it back-to-back victories for the first time all season.

And though, upon the final whistle sounding on Sunday, the hosts did not quite manage that, they were nevertheless no doubt left more than satisfied with the eventual outcome in west Yorkshire.

This comes with visitors Brentford, as the clock rolled deep into injury time, having been in possession of a 2-1 advantage.

After Tyler Roberts opened the afternoon’s scoring for Leeds inside half an hour, the Bees soon turned the clash on its head, courtesy of strikes from both Shandon Baptiste and Sergi Canos.

A twist, though, remained in the tale…

With a full 94 minutes on the clock, Patrick Bamford, introduced off the bench for his first appearance since September, broke free in the area to divert Luke Ayling’s flick-on home off the underside of the crossbar.

Over the course of proceedings at Elland Road, two of the club’s key performers were forced to limp off, in the form of captain Liam Cooper, and midfield enforcer Kalvin Phillips.

In turn, speaking to the media post-match, it came as little surprise when Marcelo Bielsa was asked for an update on the wellbeing of the pair.

The Leeds boss, though, was unable to provide much of an insight into the situation, confirming that he is patiently awaiting an update from the club’s medical team:

One player whom Bielsa did speak out over, on the other hand, was Pascal Struijk, with it confirmed that the 22-year-old is in the final stages of his recovery from a hip injury:
