Ralf Rangnick risks ridicule after baffling selection for key Manchester United role

Ralf Rangnick is reportedly set to reveal Chris Armas as one of his Manchester United coaches despite his lack of experience working in the European game. Rangnick is now in the Old Trafford hotseat having penned a deal until the end of the season. The German hoped that Michael Carrick would remain in the coaching setup but the former United midfielder jumped ship last week. And he admitted during his first press conference that he needed to recruit some backroom staff. “I am more than happy to work with the current coaching staff because I need their experience and expertise regarding the current squad,” he said. “I will obviously try to find one, two, maybe three people who can join us in the next one or two weeks but due to the Brexit regulations it is not that easy.” The 63-year-old l...

Carragher reveals important Rangnick trait with Klopp, Tuchel comparison

Jamie Carragher felt Ralph Rangnick put his stamp on Manchester United right from the start of his first game in charge of the club. Rangnick, 63, took the reins for the first time on Sunday as the Red Devils hosted Crystal Palace. It was far from a vintage display from the home side but they managed to earn a 1-0 victory. The goal came for an unlikely source as midfielder Fred struck from distance on 77 minutes. Rangnick’s relief and delight was evident on the sidelines as they held on to take all three points. He only had a couple of days to work with the players ahead of facing the Eagles. But, after the farcical last few weeks of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s time in charge, Carragher saw a new philosophy from the off. “I was impressed with Manchester United,” he said on Sky Sports. “From th...

Twitter reacts as Everton beat Arsenal in ridiculous fashion

I honestly don't even know how I'm supposed to decipher the football that took place on Monday night. Like, it seems impossible. At one point, in our work chat, 90min editor Matt O'Connor-Simpson mused: "This is so awful I've put Boreham Wood vs St Albans on." The lad had a point. It was an awful game of football for about 40 minutes. This is a genuinely awful game of football— Scott Saunders (@_scottsaunders) December 6, 2021You know your team are absolutely terrible if they’re playing on a Monday night during a Champions League week. That’s my only comment on Arsenal - Everton. pic.twitter.com/ubTZFacF5a— Jack Gallagher (@calciolovesjack) December 6, 2021The only real talking point being Ben Godfrey's - ahem - agricultural altercation with Takehiro Tomiyasu. The defender caught the Japan in...

Tsimikas recalls ‘incredible’ Liverpool moment which spurred on strong form

Liverpool left-back Kostas Tsimikas has said that his first Premier League start at Anfield was a standout moment which has since spurred him on. The Greece international, who signed for the Reds last summer, struggled for minutes in his debut season. Indeed, Liverpool’s instability at the back and Andy Robertson’s strong form kept him out of the team. However, he has enjoyed a more regular role this term and has, as such, become a fan favourite. Tsimikas is proving both a solid deputy and a star alternative to Robertson. Due to his struggles for match action last season, Tsimikas only made his first Premier League start at Anfield for Liverpool in August. He put in a solid display against Burnley, assisting Diogo Jota’s goal in a 2-0 win. He also proved crucial defensiv...

Rafa Benitez rallies Everton in promise to fans after late turnaround ends winless run

Rafael Benitez is confident Everton will turn things around, as long as he is given the time to do so, after the stunning late win over Arsenal on Monday Night Football. The club’s winless run came to an end in dramatic fashion as Demarai Gray’s stoppage-time strike secured a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over the Gunners at a raucous Goodison Park. The visitors took the lead through Martin Odegaard’s volley at the end of the first half, moments after Richarlison had a goal disallowed for offside following a VAR check. Richarlison had another goal ruled out by VAR just before the hour mark, before he drew the Toffees level with a 79th-minute header when Gray’s shot came back off the bar. Gray then secured Everton’s first victory in nine league outings by sending an effort in off the ...
