Manchester City the team to beat?

Even without a striker, Manchester City are showing their title-winning credentials as they took advantage of a Chelsea slip up to go top of the table last weekend.

This is, in part, thanks to Portuguese pair Joao Cancelo and Bernardo Silva, who have both been excellent this season.

Wilshere full of praise for Bernardo Silva

Jack Wilshere, currently training with Arsenal, was quick in his praise of Bernardo Silva after his two-goal haul and all-round sparkling performance against Norwich City on Saturday evening.

Speaking on talkSPORT, the former Arsenal and West Ham midfielder claimed:

“Ronaldo the best Portuguese today? Bernardo Silva is the best at the moment, I see him above all others. I’m not saying he’s better than Ronaldo after what he’s done in his career, but if the game was tomorrow, I’d choose Bernardo Silva for my team”

After a summer where it seemed that Silva’s future lay away from the Etihad Stadium, he has quickly become near-undroppable, an even more impressive feat under Pep Guardiola who, as fantasy managers know, loves to rotate his options.

He has started all but one of the Citizens’ games this season (the opening day loss to Tottenham being the only blot on his copybook), and has only failed to complete 90 minutes in two of those starts. Meanwhile, he has found the back of the net on seven occasions, the most in the City squad, and has provided an additional assist.

Can he keep it up and keep himself in the conversation with Mo Salah for the PL player of the season?
