Lionel Messi has recently responded to claims that he is one of if not the greatest player to play football.
Lionel Messi the GOAT
For many the choice is obvious. When choosing the best player to ever grace a football pitch, that man is clearly Lionel Messi.
The Argentine has dominated the footballing landscape for over a decade and will be remembered by many as the best player in the world – surpassing greats of the past such as Pele and Diego Maradona.
Messi has done it all, a record seven Ballon d’Ors, the most goals in a calendar year, the highest-scoring South American in international football history, four Champions Leagues, a Best FIFA Men’s Player award, the Golden Ball award from the 2014 World Cup, a Copa America and countless more individual and team awards.
HERE IS THE WINNER!

Messi responds to best in the world talk
Now though, Messi has himself been asked about claims that he is the best player in the world.
However, the 34-year-old gave a very humble response, stating that he never said, thought or tried to come to terms with the idea of being the greatest.
Messi added that just being able to be cited as one of the best players in the world is more than enough for him:
“I never said, thought, or even tried to come to terms with this idea [of being the greatest].
“For me, just being able to be considered or cited as one of the best players in the world is more than enough. It is something that I would never have dared to imagine or dream of.
“But… I don’t know how to put it so that it’s not misinterpreted. It’s not that I’m not interested in it, but, let’s say that I don’t not give much importance to all that.
“It doesn’t change anything for me to be the best or not. And I never tried to be either.”
