Have you ever noticed a terrible smell on the terraces? And that some matchdays smell worse depending on the opposition?
Well to get to the bottom of things, we at 101GreatGoals surveyed 2,000 Premier League football fans to find out who’s been letting rip.
Astonishingly, 90% of Premier League supporters admitted they couldn’t help letting rip during games because of their match-day diet of pies and beer – on top of a full English for breakfast.
In form West Ham United came top overall, with their fans trumping their rivals by doing the most farts.
Famous for their anthem, ‘I’m Forever Blowing Bubbles’, Hammers fans came top of the league by farting 12 times during a match. That’s one fart every 8 minutes and double the average of six farts per game.
Farting as much as they do, Hammers’ bowel habits place them above second-placed Newcastle United, who let rip 11 times per match.
David Moyes will be delighted to be top of the league
101GreatGoals spokesman Ben Davies said: “We all know football fans like to let off steam at the match, but these findings caught us by surprise.
“Fortunately, football is an outdoors game, otherwise fans would be causing a bit of stink.
“The typical match-day diet of beer and pies must be the cause of the problem for most fans.”
Burnley supporters were found to fart an average of nine times per match, while Manchester United and Wolverhampton Wanderers fans came joint-fourth on eight a game.
Supporters of Arsenal, Crystal Palace and Watford tied in fifth place, on seven.
The full standings from the windy survey can be viewed below.
This *may* be the most important piece of research on the Premier League conducted this season.
