Chelsea struggle amid injury issues
It has been a tough week for Chelsea.
Taking four points from 9 does not sound abysmal, but it is probably the worst week of their season thus far.
After squandering a season’s worth of chances against Manchester United at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea left with a 1-1 draw, which they followed up with a flukey 2-1 win over Watford.
Manager Thomas Tuchel claimed that the Blues “stole three points”, such was their inferiority to the Hornets, in a game overshadowed by a cardiac arrest in the stands.
Then came a trip to the London Stadium and the game against West Ham on Saturday. Once again, Chelsea’s fortunes turned, with a freak Arthur Masuaku goal handing the hosts all three points, and sending Tuchel’s side back across London with nothing.
Injury-hit and threadbare, Chelsea’s season could well be set to derail should they not get their first-team options back, with those filling in flattering to deceive.
Fortunately, one key man is on his way back.
Chalobah set to make rapid return?
Trevoh Chalobah could be set to make a rapid return, despite the “worrying” looking injury that he suffered against Watford.
According to Simon Johnson, writing in The Athletic:
Chelsea have been given a boost with the news that defender Trevoh Chalobah’s hamstring strain is not as bad as first feared and he could be available to return to action next week.

Additionally, Kai Havertz was spotted back in training, after limping off at half-time in the defeat to West Ham following a clash with Kurt Zouma on the stroke of the interval.
However, as per The Athletic:
“Mateo Kovacic did not train and will stay in London for the trip to Russia while N’Golo Kante and Ben Chilwell were also absent from Tuesday’s session.”
Will Chalobah’s return give Chelsea some much-needed impetus as they continue to negotiate a tricky festive schedule?
