There were roughly 800,000 stimulus checks sent out to qualifying California residents on Monday, December 6, as the payments from the Golden State Stimulus II (GSS II) begin to hit bank accounts across the state.
These payments have been going out to Californians since last week in what is the second round of stimulus checks from Governor Gavin Newsom’s $100 billion budget, which was signed into law last July,
It is estimated that 15.2 million California households, which is around two-thirds of the state’s taxpayers, will be able to reap the benefits of the $12 billion in COVID-19 relief funds.
“The Golden State Stimulus is key to lifting up those hit hardest by the pandemic and supporting California’s economic recovery, putting money directly in the hands of folks who will spend it on basic needs and within their local communities,” said Newsom at the time.
Checks still pending
While many checks have already gone out, there is a combined $563 million waiting to still go out, with these relief checks set to be mailed to the eligible recipients in California by December 17.
Those expecting to receive a check are in line for a payment between $600 and $1,100, with the sum depending on your own personal circumstance.
There are another 3,000 direct deposit payments due, while in order to receive the Golden State Stimulus II you must be a California resident who has lived in the state for over half of the 2020 tax year and have earned $75,000 or less in 2020.
Depending on the last three digits of the ZIP code on your 2020 tax return, that will determine when your payment will go out.
The state of California has released the timeframes in which eligible recipients should expect to receive their payment by mail, based on the last three digits of their ZIP code:
