Newcastle United are expected to announce the first signing of the new regime in the coming days, with Kieran Trippier set to join the club from Atletico Madrid.

The veteran defender will add some much needed steel to the Newcastle backline. while his set piece delivery will also add another dimension to the Magpies in the final third.

But bids for three more rejected
However, according to various reports, the Tyneside club have had bids for three more defenders rejected.
Firstly, talkSPORT report that Eddie Howe and co. have seen a 25 million pound offer for Sevilla’s Diego Carlos knocked back by the La Liga outfit, with the Spanish club keen to hold out for 40 million pounds.

Then, 90min reported that offers for both Lucas Digne and also Bundesliga centre-back Nico Schlotterbeck have been rejected too.

Bids for both Carlos and Schlotterbeck reveal the key aim for Newcastle this January: to find a young defender comfortable on the ball. However, this assignment is proving harder than first expected, given the wealth of the club.
Nevertheless, given the scale of the task to stay in the Premier League this season, movement on this front can likely be expected shortly.
