2022 Screen Actors Guild Awards: Who are this year’s most surprising nominees?

The Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists has officially announced the nominees for this year’s edition of the SAG Awards, one of the most important award ceremonies of the season that paves the road to the Oscars.

Like every year, the guild has chosen a thoroughly basic roster focused on rewarding bombastic performances rather than subtle and contained performances. Among the nominees we have Nicole Kidman (Being the Ricardos), Lady Gaga (House of Gucci), Jared Leto (House of Gucci), Jennifer Hudson (Respect), Will Smith (King Richard) and Javier Bardem (Being the Ricardos), the latter is the most offensive considering controversial casting choice, which has been deemed racist by audiences and some insensitive comments from director Aaron Sorkin. However, this is expected in SAG Award deliveries. The big surprise is the absence of Kristen Stewart in Best Actress category.

In the Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture category we found yet again a selection of conservative crowd pleasers: “Belfast,” “CODA,” “Don’t Look Up,” “House of Gucci,” and “King Richard.” Honestly, not much surprise here, as we could tell those were the obvious choices, and the Oscars are sure to follow the same trend.
