Liverpool vs Arsenal
Liverpool and Arsenal are due to face off in a League Cup semi-final clash on Thursday.
It is the first of two ties, with this match set to take place at Anfield and the second at the Emirates the following week.
Jurgen Klopp has not put much stock into the English domestic cups since his arrival from Germany, but fans are no doubt eager to see their side add another trophy to their already huge collection.
As for Arsenal, they head into the game with a simply awful record against the top English sides this season.
Tottenham are the only ‘top-six’ side they have been able to pick up a win against in 2021/22, with some rather dismal showings put on against the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City (the 5-0 loss).
The Gunners, though, will no doubt take solace in the fact Jurgen Klopp cannot call upon Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah or Naby Keita this week or next week.
Mikel Arteta on Dusan Vlahovic
Ahead of Thursday’s game, Mikel Arteta would speak to the press on Wednesday.
When doing so, Arteta was asked about Dusan Vlahovic. Reports emerged on Tuesday that Fiorentina were set to accept Arsenal’s bid for Vlahovic.
But when quizzed on the Serbian on Wednesday, the Arsenal boss gave little away:
“I’m really sorry to disappoint you but you know I’m not going to be discussing any transfer rumours”
Arteta also stated he will know more about Xhaka’s covid situation today, adding that they will train with the midfielder whenever they have the option:
Arteta on Xhaka potentially returning:
After having COVID some are struggling and some are fine. Whenever we have the option to train Granit with the team we will do that. I don’t know where he’ll be physically, but I know where he’ll be mentally. https://t.co/lX2TH2nnl3— Kaya Kaynak (@kayakaynak97) January 12, 2022
