France Football put Benzema ahead of Mbappe

Karim Benzema was the best French footballer in 2021. The No.9 celebrated his 302nd Real Madrid goal against Barcelona in Wednesday night’s Supercopa de Espana semi-final, continuing the fine form he’s been enjoying with his club.

That form was consistent throughout 2021 and even earned him a recall to the France squad for Euro 2020.

So impressive was his form that France Football have named him as the best French footballer of 2021, ahead of even Kylian Mbappe. The latter welcomed and celebrated Benzema winning the award, even above himself and N’Golo Kante.

“I’ve become the No.9 that I always wanted to be,” Benzema said in an interview with France Football.

With 23 goals in 26 games so far this season, and nine assists as well, Benzema is showing no signs of slowing down with Los Blancos, and he could well go on to achieve even more in 2022.
