Newcastle vs Watford

Newcastle are set to play out a huge Premier League clash this weekend.

The Magpies will play host to Watford a 3 pm UK time in a game that could prove to be a massive one in their hopes of survival.

Newcastle are currently 19th in the English top-flight, having won just one game from 19 attempts. However, despite their dismal record, they are just two points behind 17th-place Watford.

The North East outfit also have a game in hand on the Hornets. So, a win on Saturday and then a win in their game in hand would be excellent for Eddie Howe’s side.

Eddie Howe’s concerning Newcastle transfer update

Ahead of the Watford game, Eddie Howe has spoken out about transfers.

Newcastle have signed Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood so far this month.

And whilst both are solid signings, Newcastle are yet to address their centre-back department, which is a key problem area for them – as shown by the fact they have conceded 42 goals in 19 league games this term.

The Northern Echo report that Newcastle’s recruitment team have made bids for Lille’s Sven Botman and Sevilla’s Diego Carlos, but have been unable to reach an agreement over either.

And now, when speaking on Friday, Howe stated that Newcastle are not currently close to anyone:

“We’re not close to anyone else currently. The squad of players we have will be the squad of players we have for Watford.

“We are looking. We’ve got time left in the window, and we know we need to move quickly if we need to try to add more players.

“Obviously, we’re still active in the market, but there’s no immediate news to give you on that front.”

This, of course, means the Magpies will be facing Watford without some much-needed centre-back reinforcements. And should Newcastle not bring in a centre-back during the winter window, you would assume that it would massively impact their chances of staying up.
