Despite being described as a mid variant, the Omicron variant of the coronavirus is the latest strain of COVID-19 that is causing a reasonable panic for many around the world,
In recent months,COVID.19 infections increased around the world. Omicron spreads faster than any other pandemic recorded.
The good news is that, after overcoming Omicron, immunity lasts for a sizeable period of time in some cases.
How long do antibodies last?
Coronavirus antibodies generated by Omicron infection last at least six months in 88 percent of the cases.
According to experts, these antibodies provide a certain degree of protection to the majority of those who suffer infection.
Furthermore, once that period of six months has passed, the protection rate drops to a still significant 74 percent.
“Infection, whether with Omicron or any other variant, will strengthen your immunity. That immunity will be more effective against the same variant, but it will continue to be effective against the others,” said professor Paul Hunter, an infectious disease expert at the University of East Anglia.
According to the studies that have been carried out on those infected, they were found to have anti-n antibodies and therefore were more resistant to the virus after having overcome it.
Effectiveness of the COVID vaccine against Omicron
But it must be taken into account that vaccines are somewhat less effective against Delta and Omicron, although some suggest that a booster shot offers more protection.
“All the vaccines in our study show a statistically significant boost,” says professor Saul Faust of the Centre for Clinical Research at Southampton University Hospital.
