Tielemans’ future at Leicester City remains uncertain amid Arsenal interest

Youri Tielemans has entered the last 18 months of his deal at Leicester City, who have been trying to tie their star down on a new contract since last season.

However, the two parties have yet to reach an agreement, which could see Leicester cash in on the Belgium international next summer in order to avoid losing him on a free transfer in 2023.

Meanwhile, according to reports in England, Arsenal are keen on bringing Tielemans to the Emirates Stadium and a potential move for the 24-year-old midfielder should not be ruled out.

Speaking to the media ahead of Leicester‘s match against Burnley, Brendan Rodgers acknowledged that he may be forced to plan for a future without one of the Foxes‘ top performers in the last two seasons.

“You always have to [plan for life without players], that is key. You always have to be looking ahead, that’s important,” Rodgers said.

“Youri is at an age and at a stage in his contract where he has to ensure he looks at every option.

“I would love it to be here at Leicester, that is natural, but I understand it’s a very short career.

“Once the player is committed, focused and professional it’s never a worry for me.

“With Youri you can see his joy of being here, he loves being here and you have to respect these guys’ careers are short.

“If we are going to lose one we have to be ready for the next one to come in.”

Tielemans’ rise to stardom

Tielemans joined Leicester on loan from Monaco in January 2019 and made an impressive impact, which led to the Premier League side making his move permanent for a club-record fee of 32 million pounds.

Their decision to sign the former Anderlecht prodigy paid dividends, as Tielemans netted his team’s sole goal in their 1-0 victory over Chelsea in the 2020/21 FA Cup final to hand Leicester their first-ever cup trophy.

Since arriving at the King Power Stadium, the Belgium international has scored 23 goals and provided 22 assists in 131 games for the Foxes across all competitions.
