Joao Felix has attracted interest from Manchester City, but Atletico Madrid and Diego Simeone see the Portuguese as ‘untouchable’ in Madrid.
Pep Guardiola had wanted Joao Felix to join him in England before Atletico managed to sign him from Benfica, and Barcelona have also shown an interest in the No.7 in the past. But there’s no chance of the forward leaving the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano, neither this January nor in the summer.
Atletico are clear in their stance on Joao Felix. He was signed in 2019 for a huge fee, making him their most-expensive signing of all time, and their belief in the player hasn’t changed in his two years at the club. Simeone knows his worth and his talent, and the club aren’t willing to contemplate his departure.
Even when doubt has arisen about the 22-year-old’s consistency, or when the player has grown frustrated with his lack of prominence in the team, Simeone and the club have always believed that he is an untouchable member of their squad.
A ‘final’ in San Sebastian
Having fallen short in the Supercopa de Espana semi-final against Athletic Club, Atletico take on another Basque side in a crucially important Copa del Rey last-16 tie against Real Sociedad in midweek.
Just three games away from a final, Simeone will be desperate to see his side put in a good performance at La Real.
