Karima Benzema enjoyed a fantastic 2021 and was even named the best French player of the calendar year by France Football, beating Kylian Mbappe to the honour.
The Real Madrid striker has spoken to the French magazine about his own career and style of play, as well as his relationship with Vinicius.
The Frenchman has been one of, if not the most important player, at Real Madrid in recent times and has helped develop those around him, including Brazilian youngster Vinicius.
“I try to make the others better,” he told France football.
“Let’s take Vinicius for example. I know I’ve helped him.
“You have to ask questions of him and he’s not the same player today as he was when he came in.
“He’s performing like he should have been doing some time ago.
“He’s a good, young player. You just have to talk to him. I know that he was capable of doing a lot more.
“With two or three comments on the pitch, in two or three movements, I showed him things, especially in the final third.
“He needs to make decisions himself about whether to pass or shoot. He needs to get his head up and look forward.
“He’s doing that now and we’re seeing the real Vinicius.”
Benzema also has a clear idea about how he likes to play the game.
“I like one touch football, when it’s fluid” he said.
“It’s like driving a Ferrari. Football needs to be elegant and beautiful.
“Scoring a goal is like hitting the accelerator in a Ferrari. It’s pure adrenaline.”
Real Madrid are set to face Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League last 16 and Benzema spoke about his France teammate and PSG forward Mbappe.
“He’s one of the best in the world and he’s going to be a really great player,” he commented.
“We’re lucky enough to play together with the national side. I see his potential and I know what he’s capable of.”
