EXCLUSIVE: Arsenal offered 100-goal, free-agent striker as stop-gap measure

Arsenal have been offered the free-agent Ze Luis, a one-time strike target of Tottenham Hotspur, TEAMtalk sources understand.

The Cape Verde Islands superstar left Russian outfit Lokomotiv Moscow during the January transfer window. Lokomotiv severed the contract with Ze Luis upon mutual consent of both parties, meaning he is now a free agent.

The 31-year-old former Porto frontman almost joined Spurs in 2020, but the deal fell through.

Fresh from securing the services of Gedson Fernandes from Benfica, the Daily Mail reported that Ze Luis had been offered to Spurs on loan despite only joining Porto from Spartak Moscow in the July.

Record then reported that a deal for Ze Luis, in January 2020, was in its final stages.

Tottenham were set to sign the international striker on loan from Porto until the end of the season, but only if he was granted a work permit.

A deal though never materialised, but the player is believed to have a long-held ambition to play in the Premier League.

According to our sources, he has been in talks with a number of clubs in Turkey, including Giresunspor, but Arsenal have been offered his services.

It remains to be seen whether Arsenal will pursue any interest in the player and push ahead with talks.

Ze Luis has scored 102 goals in 292 career appearances to date.

But they are in need of a new frontman having allowed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to leave for Barcelona.

However, Serie A side Juventus signed the centre-forward from Fiorentina for a fee in the region of €80m.

And speaking at his unveiling press conference, Vlahovic confirmed it was a simple choice to sign for Juve.

He said: “There were many rumours about foreign clubs, but the choice was easy because the club and I have a similar DNA. Fight and suffer when needed.

“I think it’s part of my mentality as well, so the choice was not difficult.”
