Marc-Andre ter Stegen spoke to the press ahead of Barcelona‘s second leg of their Europa League playoff tie against Napoli.
The German hasn’t been at his brilliant best of late, but insists that he is not overly concerned about what is being said about him.
“You always have to work hard to get back to your best and that’s what I’m doing,” he stated.
“Every training session I carry out is to be in the best condition. In recent weeks, I’m sure some of you [in the press) have added some fuel to the fire because you like it. This is how it is, I’m sorry.
“But I’m calm about my form. There are many things that I’m doing well and others which I can improve.”
Ter Stegen insists there is no favourite going into the second leg, with the tie at 1-1.
“LaLiga and the Europa League are two different competitions,” he said.
“Napoli are a great team. The victory against Valencia gives us peace of mind, but this doesn’t mean anything.”
Ter Stegen is hopeful that Ousmane Dembele will stay at the club beyond the summer, when his contract expires.
“We want him to continue with us because he has ability and we want to take advantage of it,” he said.
“The decision will be his and the club’s. I don’t get involved in things that aren’t to do with me, but he is a player who can make a difference.”
