Barcelona push forward in bid to sign Christensen

Keen to further strengthen their squad ahead of next season, Barcelona are already combing the market in search of players who could beef up the team, with Chelsea centre-back Andreas Christensen one of those placed on their radar.

Talks are advanced between the club and the player’s agents, as Christensen is expected to depart Chelsea this summer when his contact with the Blues comes to an end.

Central defenders Samuel Umtiti, Clement Lenglet and Oscar Mingueza could depart the club in summer, while Gerard Pique has recently turned 35 years old. As such, Barcelona are looking to strengthen the centre-back position.

His Chelsea contract runs until June

Christensen, who is about to turn 26 in April, is known for his ability to help when his teams are building from the back, as well as his strength in aerial duels.

His contract ends in June, although Barcelona are aware that they should comply with LaLiga’s regulations should they also choose to move for Erling Haaland in summer.

Closing in on a deal for Christensen

The Denmark international is keen to join Barcelona, as the club have been informed following talks that have take place in recent months.

According to various sources, sporting director Mateu Alemany has travelled to London to try to clinch a deal with the player’s agents.

Christensen was offered to Real Madrid before the Christmas break, but Los Blancos were not willing to make a move for the Chelsea defender.

Four centre-backs

If Barcelona end up signing Christensen, they will possess four talented centre-backs including Pique, Eric Garcia and Ronald Araujo.
