Ryan Gravenberch breaks silence with transfer admission amid Bayern, Man Utd links

Ajax midfielder Ryan Gravenberch has spoken about his future for the first time after news broke that he would not be signing a new contract in Amsterdam.

Gravenberch’s current terms run until 2023, meaning Ajax must sell this summer to get an optimum price. If that fails, then the Dutch international could leave as a free agent next year.

Manchester United and Liverpool are the two main Premier League clubs chasing the 19-year-old’s signature. And he would be a great addition to either team.

However, it is German giants Bayern who are winning the transfer race as things stand. Reports claim Gravenberch has chosen to join Julian Nagelsmann’s side.

He sees the Bavarians as the best club to further his progress and become a world-class star.

United and Liverpool are still in the picture, although it will be tough to usurp Bayern. Their only hope is that negotiations break down over a transfer fee.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Bayern have put £12.6million on the table. But Ajax want £21m up front, forcing discussions to continue.

Gravenberch has now confirmed his plan to leave Ajax and revealed which discussions are going on in the background.

“The contract negotiations have now been stopped,” the ace told Dutch outlet NOS (via Goal).

“I just have one more year of contract now and that’s it, really. We’ll see. My father and agent are very busy with [handling other clubs] while I focus on football.”

When asked if he had heard about Bayern’s interest, Gravenberch replied: “Yeah, of course. You can read it everywhere, so there is interest from Bayern, but I think there are several clubs.

“I have no idea [what I’m worth]. But if you’re worth £20m, you can be proud because it’s a lot of money, of course.”

Gravenberch will have a rest over the next few weeks after failing to make Louis van Gaal’s Netherlands squad.

Midfielder disagrees with national team boss

The manager said it was because of his downturn in form – but Gravenberch is confident he is getting back to his best.

“A lesser phase, I don’t want to see it that way,” he said. “Before the winter break I didn’t play such very good games, but after the winter it really only went up.

“Then the team does well and you have to fight yourself back into the team, I just did that in the end.

“So I don’t agree with that [assessment from Van Gaal] so much.”
