Fernando Alonso amazed by the Las Vegas Formula 1 circuit

Alpine released a video of Esteban Ocon and Fernando Alonso watching a simulation of a lap of the Las Vegas street circuit, which will host an F1 Grand Prix in 2023 which brought about some interesting reactions.

The pair joked about some of the track’s curiosities while they were looking forward to the high speeds that could be achieved on the Las Vegas track.

“It’s going to be super fast. I thought it was much slower and I’m surprised about the speed that you will get on those,” Alonso said.

“I thought it was more like Baku, the style, with a lot of corners and maybe one long straight. But this is all straights.”

Ocon mentioned that the track could muster some higher speeds than normal.

“They predict 342 (km/h), but that’s alone, 360, 370 with tows and DRS,” he stated.

Alonso is somewhat concerned about the growing F1 schedule.

“I think we need to be careful with the number of races, which I think we need to agree on a limit because I think, for the teams, it’s quite demanding, how the schedule and the calendar is now,” the Spaniard said.

“Especially as we don’t have so many races in Europe anymore. So, I think that’s the only concern if we keep adding races.”

Alonso then expressed some concern about the time of the race, and also some of the littering that could take place and affect the track.

“‘It will be at night,” says Alonso. “Yes, Saturday night. Some drivers won’t make it,” joked Ocon.

“I think more about the fans, because in some of these streets there will be a lot of dust, paper, alcohol, food, drink,” Alonso said

“So there will be a lot of things on the track, unfortunately. So we will have to be careful with that.”
