St. Johnstone vs Aberdeen Match Analysis and Prediction

St. Johnstone will be hosting Aberdeen on Wednesday knowing that they need a draw or victory if they are to avoid finishing in bottom place in the Scottish Premiership table.

On the other hand, Aberdeen are looking to end a dismal campaign on a high, and a victory on Wednesday has the potential to move them as high as eighth spot.

Despite knowing that they still have plenty of work ahead to avoid relegation, St. Johnstone may at least enjoy a positive moment over the next couple of days.

Should Dundee fail to defeat Hibernian on Tuesday, St. Johnstone will be sfae from finishing the campaign in last position, forcing the Saints into a relegation playoff instead.

That will result to pressure of its own upon Callum Davidson and his team, but it is the best-case scenario and one which they should start preparing for sooner rather than later.

However, Davidson can be satisfied with his team’s recent form, with just two defeats coming in seven games.

Last time out, St. Johnstone failed to claim a victory at seventh-placed Livingston through a last-minute goal, but it remained an important point to pile the presure upon Dundee.

Meanwhile, Jim Goodwin has found it difficult to get improvements out of an Aberdeen squad who were already consistently under-performing prior to his arrival.

However, while they have recorded two wins from 10 matches, he has seen his side collect a much-needed eight points from the most recent six matches.

Off the back of defeating Dundee, Aberdeen claimed a 1-1 draw at Hibernian on Saturday, although their was a shade of disappointment having held a lead at Easter Road.

At this stage, the Dons are already making preparation for next season, but their target remains on avoiding a 10th-placed finish, which would represent their lowest spot since 2003-04.

St. Johnstone news

Having featured as substitutes against Livingston, Glenn Middleton and James Brown combined to set up a goal that eventually led to a point earned.

Callum Booth and Stevie May could both drop out of the starting lineup to accommodate the pair, Brown featuring in a wide position and Middleton joining the attack.

Aberdeen news

Manager Jim Goodwin has revealed that he intends to only start players under contract for next season or may still have a future at Aberdeen.

That considered, the starting lineup could remain the same from the Hibernian draw, with Goodwin having been impressed with the opening 45 minutes before making changes after the break.

Prediction and Odds

Neither of the two sides are currently in a good run of form, so we expect this to be a hard-fought contest that could be decided by desire over quality.

However, we feel that Aberdeen will have enough quality in the final third to edge out their hosts and secure the three points.
