For days now, the anticipation has been shared on social media. On April 28, several research centres had already echoed the announcement of this Thursday’s event on their Twitter accounts.

“The Event Horizon Telescope will reveal groundbreaking findings about the Milky Way on May 12 through multiple press conferences,” tweeted the European Southern Observatory.

The Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) also stated at the end of April on Twitter that the Event Horizon Telescope ‘has discovered unprecedented information’ about Sagittarius A*, which is the supermassive black hole at the centre of our galaxy.

The announcement will be made at several press conferences: in addition to the one in Germany, there will be others in Washington, Santiago de Chile, Mexico City, Tokyo and Taipei.
