Manchester City’s dramatic comeback against Aston Villa was a special day for all fans of the club, but especially for Charlie Gibson and his 84-year-old grandfather Barry Carr, who suffers from dementia.
They shared a love for Manchester City in common, but Carr‘s dementia meant he hadn’t been to see the Sky Blues for a long time.
His grandson organised a trip to the Etihad, speaking to the club to make the day go as smoothly as possible.
Throughout their day, he filmed his grandfather and shared clips on TikTok.
The full video is a rollercoaster of emotions, from Gibson wondering if it might be too much for his grandfather to the joy of the victory.
The long-time City fan even recalled the club’s songs when they played in the stadium, remembering enough to sing along, while the pair even took part in the post-match pitch invasion at the end.
“It was incredible to get him onto the pitch – even though we’re not supposed to – it made it extra special,” Gibson later told ITV.
“It was amazing to see the energy he got from being at the ground and enjoying the football.”
