Senator Ted Cruz walked away from a SKY News journalist who questioned Texas’ representative lack of solutions.
Cruz, an advocate for military-style weapons in the hand of the people, and one of the many Republicans who falsely claimed voter fraud during the 2020 election faced Mark Stone.
The exchange of words
Stone, a foreign journalist covering US politics asked Cruz, “is this the moment to reform gun laws?” moments after the Senator showed sadness about the 19 families that won’t see their children again.
Cruz played the script that all Republicans follow after every single mass shooting, blaming the reporter for politicizing the tragedy.
“It’s easy to go to politics,” Ted Cruz replied.
However, Mark Stone followed the Senator’s reply with the importance of politics about the issue and the opinion shared by the state of Texas and the families of the Uvalde’s victims.
“But it’s important, it is the heart of the issue,” Stone said. “It’s where many of the people we’ve talked to here like to go.”
Then, Cruz blamed the media, Democrats, and mental health for what happened. Nevertheless, Stone pushed the narrative away.
“A violent psychopath (as Cruz referred to Ramos and all mass shooters) who’s able to get a weapon so easily,” the Sky News reported rebutted. “An 18-year-old with two AR-15s.”
Cruz again used one of the most common lines of pro-NRA politicians, saying that nothing could stop the shooter.
“If you want to stop violent crime, the proposal the Democrats have, none of them would have stopped this.”
Journalist Mark Stone didn’t give up and illustrated the reality of the problem.
“But why does this only happen in your country?” Stone asked.
“I really think that’s what many people around the world just… they cannot fathom, why only in America?”
“Why is this American exceptionalism so awful?”
Cruz blamed Stone for having a “political agenda” instead of following decades of data and evidence that shows mass shootings as an American problem.
Ted Cruz walked away while Stone kept asking him “why is this an American problem?”
