Indian Super League (ISL) side, ATK Mohun Bagan have confirmed the signing of defender, Ashique Kuruniyan from Bengaluru FC on a five-year deal as they look to make a mark in the upcoming ISL season.
Kuruniyan has emerged as one of the best young players in the country, with the 25-year-old capable of playing both as a left-back and a winger and he is widely appreciated for his pace and determination by managers and fellow players.
The youngster who came into prominence after signing for LaLiga side, Villarreal in 2016 on loan, though he would be only playing for their C team. However, his stint in Spain did not go to plan as he returned back to India after just four months after suffering an hamstring injury.
It was at Pune City that he displayed his prowess, with his performances leading to Bengaluru FC to come calling for his services in 2019. However, he has flattered to deceive at times, though has put on some decent performances when needed.
His move to ATK Mohun Bagan will be a major boost for both the player and the club, with the youngster sure to develop and improve under the tutelage of Juan Ferrando. It will be interesting to see how he performs for the Mariners, considering that they are one of the top clubs in the Indian footballing sphere.
