Manchester United continues to be frustrated during the current summer transfer window as the Red Devils have missed out on another possible target in England youth international Malcolm Ebiowei.

The 18-year-old winger is reportedly set to seal a move to Crystal Palace after hopefully completing his medical this week, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Ebiowei had a break out 2021-22 at Derby County under Wayne Rooney in the Championship in his debut season in a first-team setup after spending time in the youth ranks at Chelsea, Arsenal, and Glasgow Rangers before arriving at Pride Park last summer.

The youth international went on to make sixteen appearances for the Rams as they failed to avoid the drop after multiple sanctions stripped them of enough points that would have secured safety, and Palace has now pounced on the opportunity to bring Ebiowei to Selhurst Park under Patrick Vieira given Derby’s financial needs.

Manchester United will no doubt be disappointed that they failed to outpace a club of Palace’s stature for a talented young player, but arguments can easily be made that Vieira’s outfit offers a much better pathway to minutes for Ebiowei, who likely would have been further down the depth chart this season under Erik ten Hag as the Red Devils look to secure multiple big-name moves to revamp the squad under their new headmaster.

Though Vieira can already call upon the likes of Wilfried Zaha, Michael Olise, Eberechi Eze, and Jeffrey Schlupp as wide options, Ebiowei could still find himself earning appearances under the French icon who was unafraid to utilize young talent last season as the Eagles finished in a healthy 12th-place with plenty of improvement evident all term.
