Cooperstown’s hallowed halls are going to expand in 2023, although it’s looking more and more likely it’s only going to be by one player.
With Fred McGriff already selected for this year’s Baseball Hall of Fame class by a committee, there’s a guarantee of adding at least one player in 2023. He’ll soon learn if he has any company from any of the 28 players on the Baseball Writers’ Association ballot, with Scott Rolen and Todd Helton being the most likely to get in via vote.
Players must be named on at least 75 percent of the ballots to be elected, and Rolen and Helton were both unofficially polling around 80 percent early Tuesday, but that was with under 50 percent of the votes public. With Helton in his fifth year of eligibility and Rolen in his sixth, both could well be another year away from induction depending on how the private voters decide to go.
