PSG slipped in form since Ligue 1 play returned from its World Cup break, and injuries to key players haven’t helped them rediscover their stride.
First, Brazilian superstar Neymar went down with “muscle fatigue” and missed time, but the key blow could be what occurred shortly after.
French forward Kylian Mbappe suffered a hamstring injury in a Ligue 1 game in early February, debilitating the once-fearsome PSG attack at a critical juncture of the season. Lionel Messi then missed the 3-1 league loss to Monaco with a muscle problem.
With PSG staring down key domestic fixtures against top teams, and the Champions League knockout stage set to commence, it’s a bad time for PSG to be missing their talisman up front.
Yet there’s a chance Mbappe could return sooner than expected, or at least one upcoming opponent thinks as much.

What is the Kylian Mbappe injury?
PSG star Kylian Mbappe went down in a Ligue 1 match against Montpellier on February 1.
Having missed a penalty in the 10th minute, Mbappe was withdrawn in the 21st minute and replaced by Hugo Ekitike. It’s unclear when the injury happened, but it later emerged that Mbappe had suffered a left thigh injury.
Following the match head coach Christophe Galtier confirmed the injury, but despite his playing down fears of a long-term issue, stating that the injury “doesn’t seem very serious,” the club confirmed a day later that the player would be out three weeks.
“After undergoing tests, Kylian Mbappe suffered an injury to the left thigh at the level of the femoral biceps,” read the February 2 update. “He is expected to be out of action for three weeks.”
Is Kylian Mbappe out vs Bayern Munich?
That timeline suggested the French star would miss out until roughly February 23. He has already sat out PSG’s league game against Toulouse on February 4, as well as the Coupe de France quarterfinal elimination against rivals Marseille on February 8, and the Ligue 1 loss to Monaco.
According to PSG’s initial medical release, Mbappe would certainly miss the Bayern game, as it falls nearly a week before he’d be ready to return. However, Bayern manager Julian Nagelsmann wasn’t quite convinced.
“I don’t think he will be missing [in this match] so I expect nothing else,” Nagelsmann said in a press conference the day after PSG’s February 2 medical update. “I don’t know what he has, so I assume he will play. It is a bit vague on their homepage saying he would be out for up to three weeks.”
“If there is no structural injury I can’t see him missing the game. It is too early to say already now that he won’t play if there is no structural injury.”
Julian Nagelsmann on Mbappé & Messi being a doubt for the game vs Bayern:
“There’s a lot of pressure on both teams. PSG are better with Messi & Mbappé than without them but they also have good replacements. They have a deep squad. I’ll prepare the team as if they were playing.” pic.twitter.com/J4XUntuYIl

On February 13, Mbappe was pictured back in training with his PSG teammates and it would appear there is certainly a chance he faces Bayern.
Kylian Mbappe timeline for return
If Mbappe does miss the Bayern game, he could potentially return against Lille on February 19 or Marseille in Le Classique on Sunday, February 26.
In a worst-case scenario, he’d likely be back for the home league game against Nantes on March 5.
There is also a best-case outlook: German outlet Bild reported that the club was doing everything it could to have him available off the bench for the February 14 first leg against Bayern at the Parc des Princes.
