The Bears are … on clock, but maybe not for much longer.
One of the top stories at this year’s NFL Combine didn’t concern a player, but rather a team, more specifically, the Bears and the No. 1 overall selection in the 2023 NFL Draft.

With Justin Fields seemingly entrenched as the team’s starting quarterback, rumors have circulated about Chicago trading out of the top spot in a deal with a quarterback-needy team. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Sunday that it appears the Bears will end up dealing the pick, likely to a team that wants Alabama’s Bryce Young.

“There’s a lot of interest in some high-, high-profile quarterbacks, more so than we’ve seen in previous years. So you do have teams scrambling to get up to No. 1. I would expect those (talks) to really, really heat up over the next couple of weeks here. Ryan Poles is going to have options, it seems that, I would say, more likely than not dealing that No. 1 pick.”
Who could trade for the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft?
If the Bears do trade down, they won’t have to go far. The Texans (No. 2) and Colts (No. 4) are rumored to be interested in moving up for the top selection, likely for Young.
Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud could make for a fair consolation prize for a team that misses out on Young, though a team may also prefer Stroud to Young.
