XFL scores Week 3: Full highlights, results from this weekend’s games

Week 3 of the XFL season was a doozy. Each game was tight, decided by no more than a single possession. In all, it served as an indication of the parity present in the league, which is its greatest overall appeal.

The Defenders continued to show themselves to be the cream of the crop, rocking out in front of their home crowd — and getting into a little scuffle in the process — as they went to 3-0. Meanwhile, the Renegades and Guardians showed off their defensive stability en route to hard-fought dubs.

In the nightcap, the Roughnecks dodged the onrushing Brahmas in a Texas tussle to get to 3-0 themselves.

Some of the league’s best players shineed as well, with Josh Gordon putting up a top-tier display for the Sea Dragons.

Seattle Sea Dragons at Vegas Vipers updates, highlights

(All times Eastern)

10:14 p.m.: The Sea Dragons have their first win of the season after a comeback highlighted by Gordon’s touchdown. What a game to start XFL Week 3 action.

10:02 p.m.: JOSH GORDON! The former Browns star delivers with a 65-yard go-ahead touchdown for the Sea Dragons. Seattle is less than a minute away from its first win.

9:54 p.m.: The Sea Dragons score but can’t tie the game on the two-point attempt. That’s been the difference in this game.

9:44 p.m.: Huge play alert! The Vipers regain control on a 50-yard touchdown.

9:20 p.m.: The Sea Dragons are right back in this game after Josh Gordon catches a touchdown in the back of the end zone. No good on the two-point try, though.

9 p.m.: Hundley takes it in himself and finds Martavis Bryant for the two-point conversion. The touchdown made it 17-9, and a field goal has since extended Vegas’ lead to 20-9.

8:27 p.m.: The Vipers miss a field goal, and this game is headed to halftime tied.

8:18 p.m.: A field goal by the Sea Dragons has this game tied with just under two minutes until halftime.

7:55 p.m.: Nice catch by Blake Jackson on the pass from Ben DiNucci to get the Sea Dragons on the board.

7:24 p.m.: Impressive throw on the run by Brett Hundley to give the Vipers an early lead. Vegas scored all of six points last week and matches that number quickly tonight.

St. Louis Battlehawks at D.C. Defenders updates, highlights

(All times Eastern)

4:45 p.m.: That’s a 3-0 start for the Defenders, who hold off the battling Battlehawks 34-28. And “battling” can be taken quite literally, as the teams brawled in the closing seconds.

Before any of that, D.C. quarterback Jordan Ta’amu found the end zone against his old team (remember, the Battlehawks were around in the previous XFL in 2020):

Ta’amu also threw a touchdown pass in the game and racked up 196 yards through the air.

Orlando Guardians at Arlington Renegades updates, highlights

(All times Eastern)

7:05 p.m.: Vaughns’ touchdown was the difference as the Renegades overcome last week’s disappointment to beat the Guardians, 10-9.

6:40 p.m.: Tyler Vaughns reels the ball through traffic to bag the first — and to date, only — touchdown of the game. Concentration was on point.

4:55 p.m.: A fourth-down stop by the Guardians’ defense deep in their territory.

San Antonio Brahmas at Houston Roughnecks updates, highlights

(All times Eastern)

10:59 p.m.: Houston walks out as 22-13 victors, bolstered by a strong defensive performance.

10:38 p.m.: The Roughnecks stuff the Brahmas on fourth down, protecting their nine-point edge and giving them the chance to put the game on ice.

10:11 p.m.: Jacques Patrick cuts into Houston’s lead with a nice little scamper from short distance. Roughnecks lead 22-13 as the third quarter comes to a close.

9:12 p.m.: Deontay Burnett gets in on the action, snagging a looping Silvers toss in the back of the end zone to push the Roughnecks lead to 15. The Brahmas will need quite the display to get back into this one.

8:45 p.m.: Kirklin makes it two scores with a simple grab over the middle of the field. Extra point gets picked off, but the Roughnecks still make out like bandits, extending their lead to 14-7.

8:17 p.m.: The Roughnecks take it right back down the field in the blink of an eye, capitalizing on a Brahmas’ kicking infraction. Brandon Silvers finds Jontre Kirklin in the end zone for six, then connects with him again on the two-point conversion to give Houston the lead.

8:09 p.m.: T.J. Vasher makes the slick catch on the slant, opening the scoring for the Brahmas. Nice play call by Hines Ward, who put a man in motion to occupy the safety and open up the space for Vasher.
