Man United vs Real Betis lineups, starting 11 for Europa League Round of 16 match

Manchester United return to European action this week, as they host Real Betis in a Europa League Round of 16 first-leg clash at Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag’s positive start to 2023 was deal a major blow over the weekend, as United were ruthlessly beaten 7-0 by old foes Liverpool in the Premier League, with the Dutchman demanding a response from his squad.

Former Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini brings his Betis side to Manchester on the back of three wins and a draw with Real Madrid in their past four La Liga matches.

Both managers are boosted by a largely unchanged injury picture ahead of kickoff with Ten Hag looking to strike a balance between resting players and restarting their post-Anfield momentum.

Man United vs Real Betis lineups

Ten Hag is still without long-term absentees Christian Eriksen and Donny van de Beek for this match, with Anthony Martial not expected to return until after the international break this month. Marcel Sabitzer is also not available.

Brazilian star Casemiro could be rested, or at least played only for part of the match, due to a minor knock and the risk of a suspension should be receive a yellow card, with Aaron Wan-Bissska and Jadon Sancho amongst the likely rotations. There are also some concerns about the fitness of Raphael Varane, meaning Harry Maguire could be in line to start, with Victor Lindelof struggling recently with a minor injury.

Pellegrini is without Nabil Fekir following knee surgery, but Sergio Canales is back.

Below are the projected starting lineups for both teams ahead of their match at Old Trafford on March 9.

It remains to be seen whether Wout Weghorst will lead the attack or be deployed in a deeper role, which could see Marcus Rashford as the No. 9 and Bruno Fernandes pushed wide again.

Real Betis starting 11

Real Betis starting XI (4-3-3): Bravo (GK) — Sabaly, Pezzella, Felipe, Miranda — Canales, Rodriguez, Carvalho — Ruibal, Iglesias, Perez
