Canada star Freddie Freeman leaves game vs. Colombia with lower-body injury

Team Canada star Freddie Freeman left Tuesday’s World Baseball Classic game against Colombia in the bottom of the fourth inning due to a lower-body injury, according to Sportsnet’s Shi Davidi.

With Freeman out, Denzel Clarke took over centre field and the second spot in the batting order, while Jared Young moved from left field to first base and Jacob Robson shifted from centre field to left field.

Canada, which is 1-1 after two Pool C games at the WBC, needs to win its next two games against Colombia and Mexico to guarantee a spot in the quarterfinals.

Canada led Colombia 1-0 at the time of Freeman’s exit.

Freeman, 33, is a six-time all-star, a National League MVP and a World Series winner who currently plays for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
