Many of NBA superstars have tried their luck in the world of cinema. Some of them have come out so bright that they even won an Academy award. Any discussion about NBA stars and the Oscars will be incomplete without mentioning the Lakers legend Kobe Bryant. When Kobe’s short film “Dear Basketball” was chosen as the Best Animated Short Film in the 2018 Oscars, he became the first NBA player to be honoured by the Academy. Three years after Kobe’s tragic demise, Hollywood has again honoured the late legend and left his family grateful and emotional.

In a recent ceremony at the Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, Kobe Bryant’s handprints and footprints were enshrined. With this, Kobe became the only athlete to receive the honour. Kobe’s daughter Natalia Bryant gave an emotional speech on the occasion. Overcome by emotions, Kobe’s wife Vaness Bryant took to Instagram and expressed her thoughts.

Vanessa Bryant expresses her gratitude to the Lakers

As she was giving her speech, Natalia recollected Kobe’s memories. She spoke about Kobe’s love for cinema and how both of them used to watch movies together. Natalia also added that her father has influenced her to pursue film in college. Apart from Natalia, the Los Angeles Lakers president Jeanie Buss, and NBA legend and Kobe’s mentor Byron Scott also spoke about Kobe on the ceremony.

Vanessa Bryant was enlivened and emotional to hear those words about Kobe. Sharing a picture from the ceremony on her Instagram,Vanessa thanked the Lakers and appreciated her daughter.

” Thank You Natalia, Jeanie and Byron for your beautiful words today. Jeanie and Byron, you both had a special impact on Kobe and his Lakers career. Thank you for being there today. Natalia, I know how hard it is to do what you did today. We are so proud of you. Love you all,” Vanessa Bryant wrote on the caption of her post.

Kobe’s contributions to cinema

Out of all the off court endeavours of Kobe, his contributions to cinema and television will be the most remembered. The Lakers legend has been featured in numerous sitcoms, films, documentaries, and short films. The most remarkable of his contributions to cinema is his Oscar winning short film “Dear Basketball,” which explores Kobe’s love for the game.

“Dear Basketball” shows how creative Kobe was. The short film features a poem written by Kobe himself and he narrated the poem for the short film. It was animated and directed by Glen Keane.
