Ryan Garcia vs. Oscar Duarte fight date, start time, card, price & odds for 2023 boxing fight

Super lightweight star Ryan Garcia will return to action for the first time since losing his unbeaten record to Gervonta Davis in April. ESPN’s Mike Coppinger was the first to report that the quick-fisted Californian will face Oscar Duarte at The Alamodome in San Antonio on December 2.

Garcia, 25, turned pro in 2016. He stopped Luke Campbell for the interim WBC lightweight title but injuries and mental health issues halted his momentum. After beating Emmanuel Tagoe and Javier Fortuna, Garcia faced Davis in a money-spinning shootout and was stopped in seven rounds.

While Garcia still fights under the Golden Boy Promotions umbrella, there has been friction. Oscar De La Hoya, Bernard Hopkins, and trainer Joe Goossen were absent from the Davis-Garcia post-fight press conference, and Golden Boy filed a lawsuit against Garcia in June for alleged breach of contract.

However, it now appears that both parties are amicable enough to work together.

“It’s business as usual,” De La Hoya told ESPN. “We have a couple of pending issues that should not impede any type of progress moving forward. I truly feel that we’re going to get this behind us and then move on with his career.”

Looking for a fresh start, Davis now works with coach Derrick James, who trains Jermell Charlo, Errol Spence Jr., and Anthony Joshua.

“I’m searching for greatness,” Garcia told ESPN. “I’m looking to improve. I’m looking to be a champion with Derrick James. I feel he can guide me and mentor me.”

Duarte, 27, turned pro in 2013. Fighting at lightweight, he lost the first bout of his career in 2019 (to Adrian Estrella) and has since won 11 in a row, all via knockout. His last bout was a retirement win over D’Angelo Keyes in May.
