Maverick Carter, LeBron James’ business manager, admits he used to bet on NBA games through illegal bookie

Maverick Carter, LeBron James’ long-time friend and business manager, admitted to federal investigators that he used to bet on NBA games through an illegal bookie, the Washington Post reported on Thursday.

The report was sparked by an investigation into former minor league baseball player Wayne Nix, who pled guilty to charges of running an illegal off-shore betting business.

Carter was interviewed back in 2021 as part of the investigation because one of Nix’s business partners, Edin Kagosoff, had received texts from a “business manager for a professional basketball player,” which turned out to be Carter.

Maverick Carter NBA betting, explained

Carter’s interview with federal investigators took place back in 2021, where he admitted that he used to bet on NBA games through an illegal bookie.

According to the Washington Post’s report, Carter played bets on 20 different basketball and football games, but he told officials that the bets had “nothing to do” with his client and friend, James.

The wagers on his NBA games were said to go up to $25,000.

Per the NBA’s gambling policy, players, team and league officials are not allowed to bet on NBA games. Business managers, however, do not fall under that policy.
