Is Trey McBride playing Week 13? Fantasy injury update for Cardinals-Steelers

Fantasy football owners have already gotten some bad news at tight end this week with Dalton Schultz (hamstring) and Dallas Goedert (forearm) both unlikely to play. Now, 2023 breakout Trey McBride is “questionable” because of a groin injury, putting his Week 13 status in question and forcing his owners to check for updates all Sunday morning before locking in their start ’em, sit ’em decisions.

We’ll continue to update this article with news on McBride until the official active/inactive report comes out on Sunday around 11:30 a.m. ET, so check back for the latest.

Is Trey McBride playing Week 13?

McBride (groin) started the week with a missed practice, but he managed to get in limited sessions on Thursday and Friday, leading to a “questionable” tag ahead of Sunday’s game in Pittsburgh.

Considering he didn’t miss any game action in Week 12 and practiced some this week, we’d expect him to suit up against the Steelers. Since Week 8, McBride has been the No. 3 fantasy TE, trailing only T.J. Hockenson and George Kittle, so he’s a must-start as long as he’s active. He’s posted his impressive numbers despite playing with three different starting QBs during that span.

If McBride is out, then Geoff Swaim and Elijah Higgins will split TE reps for the Cardinals. Given the statistically difficult matchup, neither can be trusted in season-long leagues. If anything, WRs like Greg Dortch and Rondale Moore will see more targets, especially with Michael Wilson (shoulder) out and Hollywood Brown (heel) failing to practice all week.

If you’ve been relying on McBride and need a late TE pivot, Juwan Johnson (vs. Lions) is the best streaming option, but guys like Brevin Jordan (vs. Broncos), Tyler Conklin (vs. Falcons), and Hunter Henry (vs. Chargers) are in favorable matchups, too.
