Texas vs. Oklahoma State live score, updates, highlights from 2023 Big 12 championship game

After three seasons — and plenty of false dawns — Steve Sarkisian finally has Texas rolling. The Longhorns posted their first double-digit win season since 2017, vanquishing 11 of their 12 foes to return to the pinnacle of college football superpowers.

They weren’t quite able to mount a challenge for the national championship; a midseason defeat to Red River rivals Oklahoma relegated the Longhorns to the outer reaches of the playoff picture.

Still, 2023 has been a season of growth for the Horns. They can cap off their resurgence with a bit of hardware on Saturday, too; Texas faces off with Oklahoma State for the Big 12 championship.

When it comes to postseason success, neither the Longhorns nor the Cowboys have been all that prolific in recent years. Texas’ last conference title came in 2009; Oklahoma State’s in 2011.

But there’s plenty of reason to be hopeful as both sides ready to paint AT&T Stadium in a deluge of orange. Texas has proved itself a juggernaut, riding the toolsy frame of Quinn Ewers — as well as steady showings on both sides of the ball — to the Big 12 mountaintop.

Joining Sarkisian’s squad there is the Cowboys, who have quietly assembled one of the country’s more prolific attacks. Sophomore Ollie Gordon II is the standout, racking up some an NCAA-best 1,580 rushing yards and 20 rushing touchdowns to headline Mike Gundy’s front line. The result? An Oklahoma State offense that averages a little more than 30 points per game, good for No. 48 among FBS teams.

Who will end their conference title drought? It’s for the football gods to decide. Either way, though, expect to see plenty of starlight when the Longhorns and Cowboys take the stage at Jerry World.
