North Dakota State betting news: Bison add to historic FCS records

NDSU has churned out several NFL players including Christian Watson, Trey Lance, and Carson Wentz in recent years. As the winningest program in FCS history, North Dakota State has also amassed some gaudy statistics:

  • Most consecutive FCS quarterfinal appearances (14)
  • Most consecutive FCS semifinal appearances (9)
  • Most FCS playoff wins (54)
  • Highest FCS playoff winning percentage (.920%)

NDSU advanced to the FCS quarterfinals after lineman Hunter Poncius blocked Montana State’s extra point to give the Bison a 35-34 overtime victory on the road. The Bison defense notably leads all FCS schools with 18 interceptions this season after nabbing one in last week’s second round game.

RB TaMerik Williams only rushed the ball 11 times, but he produced a career-high 162 yards that included TD runs of 44 and 75 yards against Montana State. All totaled, the Bison racked up 296 yards rushing.

NDSU QB Cam Miller scored a three-yard rushing TD in overtime to put NDSU up. Miller gets it done with his passing arm, too, with an FCS-best .735 completion percentage this year.

NDSU enters this Missouri Valley Football Conference (MVFC) rematch against South Dakota with a 7-1 record when facing the same opponent in the FCS Playoffs. The only defeat came in last year’s national championship game against South Dakota State.

South Dakota betting news: Coyotes boast one of best FCS defensive units

The Coyotes have already produced several milestones this season heading into Saturday’s FCS quarterfinal matchup against NDSU.

  • First 10-win season at the FCS level
  • First time as a top-5 seed in the FCS Playoffs
  • First trip to the FCS quarterfinals

All of that added up to South Dakota head coach Bob Nielson being named MVFC Coach of the Year.

QB Aidan Bouman (pictured above) has thrown for 2,352 yards this season, the seventh-most in program history. Bouman completed 11 of 16 passes for 174 yards and two TDs in last week’s 34-24 win against Sacramento State.

Charles Pierre Jr. rushed for a career-high 123 yards in the second round game, and tight end JJ Galbreath’s 75-yard TD catch marked South Dakota’s longest scoring reception of the season.

This team thrives on the defensive side of the ball. Linebacker Brock Mogensen led the conference in tackles and was named MVFC Defensive Player of the Year. South Dakota’s defense held seven of 11 FCS offenses to seven points or less this year.

The Coyotes defense contributed to the scoring against Sacramento State. DE Mi’Quise Grace hit pay dirt on a 56-yard fumble return for a touchdown.

North Dakota State vs. South Dakota prediction

This should be an entertaining game for the national audience on ABC. South Dakota ruined NDSU’s homecoming in the first meeting between these two teams this season. The Coyotes produced touchdowns on their first three drives and led 21-3 at halftime.

Another quick start will be beneficial on Saturday, and South Dakota’s defense gives up the fifth least amount of yards among all FCS teams. Take the points at home.

Pick: Coyotes
