Pacers vs. Lakers odds, props, prediction: Can Indiana finish improbable run with NBA In-Season Tournament title?

The NBA In-Season Tournament will conclude tonight with a matchup few would have predicted.

Well, half of it anyway.

The Los Angeles Lakers are playing the kind of basketball that’s expected, led by veteran superstars. Their opponent, the Indiana Pacers, are realizing a potential few outside their building saw coming, at least this quickly.

But Pacers vs. Lakers is the type of matchup this tournament was built to give us, and when analyzing NBA Cup final odds, the most important question to ask is if the young Pacers can continue to exceed expectations.

Pacers vs. Lakers odds: Point spread, total, moneyline

Here are the latest NBA betting odds for Pacers vs. Lakers in the NBA In-Season Tournament Championship:

Pacers betting news: Haliburton leading Indiana’s fast, efficient attack

We’re beyond the point where we call the Pacers surprising, right?

They’ve played above their regular-season level, and their experience, but they’ve done enough of it in this tournament to just expect it.

That starts with Tyrese Haliburton, who has been the NBA Cup’s breakout star. The 23-year-old point guard had 27 points, including a massive late 3-pointer, 15 assists and seven rebounds in the semifinal win against the Bucks.

He’s the engine that makes the fastest team in the NBA go, and he’s doing so in a remarkably efficient manner. Haliburton’s assist-to-turnover ratio in the past two games is 28-0.

Indiana’s depth has been just as important – eight players average double figures – but that will be tested a little as backup point guard Andrew Nembhard is out with a knee injury suffered late in the semifinal.

Lakers betting news: LeBron leading motivated LA

Anyone that watched Thursday night’s semifinal game clearly saw that the Lakers are motivated to win this, most notably LeBron James. He had 30 points, five rebounds and eight assists while playing less than half the game in a blowout win, and set the tone early with a 3-point play on the game’s first possession.

While LeBron is three weeks away from his 39th birthday, he’s still a player who can take over any game and lift his team to great things.

He’s listed at to win NBA Cup MVP for a reason.

Expect LeBron to see a lot of Aaron Nesmith, who has the strength and athleticism to slow James – if he can stay out of foul trouble.

Anthony Davis was massive for the Lakers in the quarterfinal win against the Suns, with 27 points and 15 rebounds. He pulled down 15 more boards against the Pels.

The biggest key for LA could be making sure the game isn’t played at Pacer’s pace, which would minimize Davis’ defensive impact.

Pacers vs. Lakers prop picks

  • Haliburton OVER 46.5 Points + Assists + Rebounds (-111)
  • James OVER 7.5 assists (-117)

These props can be found at Caesars, where the juice is pretty heavy on anything that looks attractive.

Haliburton has cleared this number in each of his past three outings, and could threaten it again tonight with just his points and assists. If the Pacers have a chance of pulling off yet another upset in this tournament, they’re going to need their star to be at his best.

For James, this feels like a triple-double type game, and he’s gone OVER 7.5 assists in each of the last two, with 11 against Phoenix and eight in the semifinal blowout of the Pels despite playing just 22 minutes. He’s still one of the better passers in the league, and that really tends to come out when the stakes are highest.

Pacers vs. Lakers prediction

The run the Pacers are on is incredible, and Haliburton has been the story of this tournament. But the Lakers look determined, and James clearly wants to make winning the inaugural edition of the NBA Cup part of his legacy.

So the lean is to the favorite, but maybe sprinkle a little on Haliburton at to win the MVP as a hedge. Heck, under the right circumstances, both could cash.

Pick: Lakers
