Most QB rushing touchdowns in a single season: Eagles’ Jalen Hurts sets NFL record

The NFL is using its quarterbacks for more than just passing now more than ever.

Jalen Hurts, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson and Kyler Murray are just a few of the dual-threat talents taking center stage in today’s league. Their impact is most clearly felt on the league’s record books, which have grown increasingly weary under the weight of constant attack by some of football’s most electric players.

Jackson set the league’s high-water mark for rushing yardage by a QB just four years ago. Now, in 2023, Hurts joined him in the record books with a new mark for touchdowns in a season.

Most QB rushing touchdowns in single season

Hurts made NFL history on Christmas Day, besting Cam Newton’s record for most QB rushing touchdowns with his 15th score. Hurts is perhaps the greatest beneficiary of the Eagles’ use of the “Brotherly Shove”, a seemingly unstoppable move that sees Philadelphia’s offensive line launch its hulking QB into the end zone while he is pushed by teammates from behind.

Hurts smashed through Newton’s record, which lasted 12 years. He had already surpassed his previous season high earlier in the game, netting his 14th rushing TD to open the scoring when Philadelphia battled New York. Hurts recorded 13 such scores last year.

Here’s a look at the 10 greatest single-season rushing performances (by way of touchdowns):
