Memphis Tigers betting news

The Tigers have an explosive offense and put up high point totals on almost every opponent they face. Memphis has hit the OVER for total points in 10 out of 12 games. Also, the Tigers have hit the OVER in the last six consecutive games.

Memphis QB Seth Henigan has had a big year in his third season as the starter. Henigan has improved each season as the starter and will look to have a big bowl game to get the offseason started right.

The Tigers could be one of a handful of teams outside a major conference that could contend for the College Football Playoff next year.

Memphis Tigers opt-outs for the AutoZone Liberty Bowl

Memphis has fewer player opt-outs than Iowa State for the Liberty Bowl, but the players they are missing played much more significant roles. Two offensive line starters and arguably their best defensive back will be difficult players to replace.

Iowa State Cyclones betting news

The Cyclones’ offense took some time as Rocco Becht received on-the-job experience. A 1-2 start with a loss where Iowa State only scored seven points against MAC opponent Ohio had their season on the ropes.

The Cyclones came out firing a week later, scoring 34 against Oklahoma State in a big win, and would win four of five to get their record to 5-3.

They split their final four games, but their win over Kansas State in their final game of the season as 9.5-point underdogs was Becht’s best game. While he only threw 12 times, he completed eight passes for 230 and three touchdowns.

With Becht back next year and his team’s leading rusher and top two receivers, they could be building one of the best offenses in the Big 12.

Iowa State will have some holes to fill this off-season, but the Liberty Bowl could help them attract a few more players from the transfer portal for next year’s squad. If they can do that, there is no reason that Iowa State couldn’t be a Big-12 contender and a sneaky College Football Playoff contender.

Iowa State Cyclones opt-outs for the AutoZone Liberty Bowl

The Cyclones will be missing quite a few players at the Liberty Bowl, but only a few played large roles outside of the running back position this season, where Iowa State will be missing their second and third leading rushers.

  • Cartevious Norton, RB (Transfer portal)
  • Terrell Crosby, CB (Transfer portal)
  • Joseph Jean-Louis, LB (Transfer portal)

Memphis vs. Iowa State prediction: Fast-paced with lots of points

The Liberty Bowl features two teams with quite a few opt-outs but with each quarterback still at the disposal. Memphis’ offense is one of the best in the country, and the Cyclones’ offense ended the season playing their best football.

That combination should lead to a lot of points being scored and make for some exciting football. If you are also looking to put some action on player props, quarterback passing yards would be a good one to take a look at.

For the overall game, though, OVER total points is the best bet, with the winner being harder to project.

Pick: OVER
