The NFL released a statement Monday on why it was fining Tepper after the incident, which took place shortly after quarterback Bryce Young was intercepted toward the conclusion of the loss.

“The National Football League today fined Carolina Panthers’ chairman David Tepper $300,000 for his unacceptable conduct in Jacksonville during Sunday’s game. All NFL personnel are expected to conduct themselves at all times in ways that respect our fans and favorably reflect on their team and the NFL,” the league announced in a statement Tuesday.

Tepper also released a statement expressing regret and apologizing for his poor behavior.

“I am deeply passionate about this team and regret my behavior on Sunday,” Tepper’s statement read. “I should have let NFL stadium security handle any issues that arose. I respect the NFL’s code of conduct and accept the League’s discipline for my behavior.”

It’s been a dismal season for Tepper and the Panthers, who fell to 2-14 after the loss to the Jaguars, holding the worst record in the league.

They’ll look to get their third win of the season as the Panthers come to town on Sunday, Jan. 7.
