Middlesbrough vs Chelsea live score, result, updates, highlights & lineups from Carabao Cup semifinal first leg

Chelsea fans make the 500-mile round trip to Middlesbrough this evening as the first leg of the Carabao Cup semifinal gets underway at the Riverside Stadium.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side breezed past Preston North End in the FA Cup Third Round with a 4-0 win at the weekend and will be hoping to carry that domestic-cup confidence to the north east of England.

Michael Carrick, the former Manchester United midfielder and now Middlesbrough manager, set up his side to frustrate and make life difficult for Aston Villa at the weekend but were ultimately knocked out after a deflected late Matty Cash goal.

For Boro, it’s their first League Cup semifinal since the 2003/04 campaign, where they eventually went on to win the competition after beating Bolton Wanderers 2-1 in the final. What does tonight have in store?

The Sporting News is following the match live and providing score updates, commentary.
