Liverpool vs Fulham prediction, odds, betting tips and best bets for Carabao Cup semifinal first leg

Into the semifinals of the EFL Cup for the first time in club history, Fulham will look to put themselves in good position for an upset as they visit Liverpool for the first leg of their final four matchup on Wednesday.

Both clubs have individually been amongst the most entertaining clubs in the Premier League this season, and the two played to a thrilling 4-3 finish a month ago in league play.

While Dominik Szoboszlai will be missing for a few weeks due to a muscle injury, Liverpool are beginning to see their long injury list shrink little by little, with Diogo Jota and Alexis Mac Allister among those to have returned to the pitch in recent weeks.

After both sides advanced through the third round of the FA Cup on the weekend, including Liverpool’s impressive 2-0 victory over Arsenal at the Emirates, they will now contest a domestic Cup fixture of much higher stakes just days later.

Liverpool vs Fulham prediction, odds

  • Moneyline lean: Liverpool (-285)
  • Score prediction: Liverpool 3-2 Fulham

While it’s unlikely that this match will replicate the wild 4-3 affair played out last time these two sides met in December, there should still be chances galore in this match given the propensity for both sides to play attacking styles at the expense of defensive lapses.

Fulham have done extremely well to play top Premier League teams close on numerous occasions this season, but they haven’t quite been good enough to turn the quality performances into tangible results, unless they’re playing Arsenal.

The Whites are missing defensive lynchpin Tim Ream who remains sidelined with a calf injury, leading to a few extra defensive lapses in recent weeks, while Liverpool get their attacking unit back to full strength.

Liverpool vs Fulham best bet

Any selection of over 3.5 goals is always a high bar to clear, but with these two teams, it’s already proven to be attainable. Fulham may not be in the same goal scoring form as their run in early December that included their 4-3 defeat to Liverpool, but they can still prove a threat, especially against top teams.

Fulham have played up or down to their competition this season, with four points off Arsenal across their two games, plus commendable performances in defeats to Chelsea, Tottenham, Man United, and Liverpool.

With a chance to snatch a spot in the EFL Cup final for the first time in club history, Marco Silva will probably let loose the dogs and pave the way for another entertaining match between these two sides.

Liverpool vs Fulham prop bet

  • Pick: Willian to score or assist a goal
  • Odds: +280 (FanDuel)

The importance of 35-year-old Willian to the Fulham lineup is truly astonishing. The Brazilian has been a revelation for the Cottagers, and continues to provide the team’s main attacking threat despite his advanced age.

Fulham suffered through its worst stretch of football during Willian’s injury absence through the second half of December, shut out in all three matches without him against Newcastle, Burnley, and Bournemouth. Sure enough, on his return, Fulham beat Arsenal 2-1 at home. With Willian in the starting lineup (13 matches), Fulham are scoring nearly two goals a game this season, while without his services from the opening whistle (7 matches), they average under one goal.

Willian was beyond due an assist this year, and finally picked up his first of the season against Nottingham Forest in early December. Still, his 1.71 xA mark belies more in the future. Against Liverpool, who like to play a high-scoring style and conceded three to this Fulham side in their last meeting, Willian could find more opportunities, having created a chance in that match despite logging just 17 minutes off the bench.
