Bucks vs. Cavaliers odds, props, predictions: Can shorthanded Cavs hang with Giannis Antetokounmpo and Milwaukee?

Two of the top four teams in the Eastern Conference will battle it out tonight in what could be a glimpse of a playoff matchup later in the season. The Cavs have been battling injuries but are still playing great basketball over their last several outings. Milwaukee comes in on a streak of their own, winning their last three.

While the Bucks have the second-best record in the Eastern Conference, they’ve had many close wins. The Bucks have the fourth-worst ATS record at 16-23-1 and have only covered once in their last eight contests. The Cavaliers have a worse overall record but have been a much better spread bet with a 19-17-2 ATS record, the 12th-best in the NBA. During their current five-game winning streak, the Cavs have covered four times.

Here are the live Bucks vs. Cavaliers odds, plus betting news, player props and a prediction for the matchup. The game tips off at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.

Milwaukee Bucks betting news

While the Bucks are not a great spread bet, that can somewhat be explained by the fact that they’re so good they are almost always the odds favorite. They have only been an underdog once this season, and they covered in that contest. With the addition of one of the most clutch players in the NBA, Damian Lillard, the Bucks have been much better at winning close games this year.

In the 23 games decided by single digits, the Bucks are 16-7, proving that the Lillard acquisition was the right move. Adding a high-volume scorer like Lillard has helped the Bucks’ franchise cornerstone, Giannis Antetokounmpo, improve his efficiency well beyond his career best.

Antetokounmpo is shooting 60.8% from the field, 3 percentage points higher than any other season of his career. Lillard may not be the No. 1 option on the Bucks, but he is still playing at an All-Star level. Lillard may be down in scoring from his career-high of 32.2 PPG last season, but his 25.2 scoring average matches his career average. For the first time in his career, he is on a team with a great chance to compete for an NBA championship.

Cleveland Cavalier betting news

Cleveland has had to deal with several injury issues this season; every one of their top five scorers has missed at least five games. Point guard Daris Garland has missed more time than any, playing in just 20 of 38 games. It is impressive that the Cavs have put together a 23-15 record, top four in the Eastern Conference.

None of the Cavs’ top players have suffered season-ending injuries, and if they ever can get their entire team healthy, they could be one of the league’s best teams. As for their matchup tonight, let’s focus on players who will play against the Bucks. Evan Mobley and Darius Garland are out, with Caris Levert a game-time decision. Donovan Mitchell and Jarrett Allen must continue to play very well to compete with Milwaukee.

Mitchell has been nothing short of amazing in the Cavaliers’ last two games, scoring 34 and 45 points. He has also shot over 50%, going 26-for-51 and 19-for-21 from the free-throw line. Mitchell ranks sixth in the league, averaging 28.1 PPG, and with Garland out has been distributing the ball well, with 22 assists in the last three matchups. Jarrett Allen has been a strong part of the duo with nine straight double-doubles.

Bucks vs. Cavaliers prediction: Bucks take down undermanned Cavaliers

Milwaukee played at Cleveland on Dec. 29, beating the Cavaliers 119-111. Cleveland was missing Evan Mobley and Darius Garland, like they will be tonight. If these two teams meet later this season or in the playoffs with each at full strength, it will be a much closer matchup. The Bucks have more firepower available tonight, making them the clear favorites.

Pick: Bucks
