Hailee Steinfeld in Taylor Swift’s music video: Why Josh Allen’s girlfriend featured in ‘Bad Blood’

Sister slay.

Two of the NFL’s most popular talents are set to face off Sunday, with Bills quarterback Josh Allen and Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce looking to clinch a ticket to the AFC championship game.

With Buffalo and Kansas City meeting in the playoffs for the third time in four years, the matchup is sure to stir up bad blood. And it likely will feature “Bad Blood” of a different sort as well thanks to Dickinson actress Hailee Steinfeld and pop-culture phenomenon Taylor Swift.

Steinfeld dates Allen. Swift dates Kelce. So their paths could cross again Sunday.

But their paths have long been intertwined, dating back to an appearance Steinfeld made as a teenager in the music video of one of Swift’s most popular songs.

Here’s what you need to know about Steinfeld, Swift and the latter’s iconic “Bad Blood” music video.

Why Hailee Steinfeld was in ‘Bad Blood’ video

Steinfeld’s inclusion in Swift’s “Bad Blood” video in 2015 did not come as a surprise.

Steinfeld, who had received an Oscar nomination for the 2011 film “True Grit,” had made a name for herself in Hollywood, so she stood out even amid a full cast of talented women in the video, including Selena Gomez, Gigi Hadid and Zendaya.

Plus, Steinfeld and Swift had a personal connection even before the video. They were introduced in 2010 by actress Emma Stone, when Steinfeld was 16 and Swift was 21, and a friendship blossomed.

“I always get the ‘Tell us something nobody knows’ question,” Steinfeld said in 2014. “And it’s like, we both respect each other tremendously, but we choose to keep our friendship out of the public eye. She’s a really great person and an inspiration to me and many others.”

Several years later, Swift hatched an idea: Make Steinfeld — and many of her other famous friends — the stars of one of her music videos.

Steinfeld was cast as “The Trinity”, a triple threat of identical clones, who helps Swift’s own character in the video.

“Taylor and I came up with the name ‘The Trinity’ for my character,” Steinfeld said in a 2015 appearance on The James Corden Show. “Which is really cool and, I think, the coolest thing we’ve ever done as friends, for sure.”

Steinfeld cast more praise Swift’s way during a 2022 interview with Stereogum.

I was so grateful and so honored to be just in Taylor’s world – aren’t we all, by the way, to exist at a time alongside her genius? And to be in that “Bad Blood” video was like, quite possibly one of the coolest days. Just being a part of her world and her vision, and she has such a strong one for almost every single thing she does. I find that she is an artist that I reference often when it comes to so many aspects in my music career. What an honor to be a part of all that, how much fun, too. And looking back on it, it’s wild. It is crazy. That was a big thing. I mean, to be a part of that era was pretty special.

The video became a hit. “Bad Blood” captured Video of the Year at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards and Best Music Video at the 2016 Grammys. To accept the MTV award, Swift took the stage alongside some of her famous co-stars, including Steinfeld.
