Where to watch USA vs Slovenia live stream, TV channel, lineups for USMNT friendly match

The United States men’s national team will conclude its annual January camp with an international friendly against Slovenia on Saturday, giving a number of fringe players a chance to impress for possible future call-ups.

As is always the case with the convening of the USMNT squad in January, the camp and subsequent match do not fall in a designated FIFA international window, meaning players are not required to be released by their clubs. As a result, the squad is almost always comprised of entirely domestic-based players who are in the midst of their club offseason.

That is the case here, as Gregg Berhalter has called in 25 players who combine for just 80 international caps and five goals, with 27 of those caps and three of the goals coming from defender Miles Robinson, who headlines the young and inexperienced squad.

Slovenia are in the same boat, traveling to San Antonio with an even more inexperienced roster as they look for possible contributors for their looming participation in Euro 2024 this coming summer.

USA vs Slovenia squads, lineups, team news

With a roster entirely made up of domestic-based players in the midst of their offseason, it’s quite difficult to know who will get the nod in the match. It’s highly likely that defender Miles Robinson will start and captain the side, but his likely partner Jackson Ragen had to withdraw from the squad due to a knee injury. Also not with the squad is winger Cade Cowell who departed camp to finalize his club transfer to Chivas.

With three uncapped goalkeepers on the roster, it feels likely that Drake Callender will finally get the start after being called up to multiple senior squads in the past without seeing the field.

Philadelphia Union midfielder Jack McGlynn could earn his first senior cap after becoming one of the most important youth internationals of the past few years, while Duncan McGuire could be rewarded for a prolific club season with the start at striker.

USA possible starting lineup (4-3-3): Callender (GK) — Moore, M. Robinson, Tafari, Tolkin — McGlynn, Sands, Morris — Kamungo, McGuire, B. White.

Like the United states, Slovenia’s squad features almost entirely domestic-based players who have little or no international experience.

The most veteran player on the roster is defender Zan Karnicnik who has 24 international appearances and the only senior international goal scored of any player in the entire Slovenia squad. He is one of four players called up from Slovenian club Celje who are running away with this year’s league title, 10 points clear at the top through 19 matches.

There is one US-based player on the roster, with 19-year-old right-back Mitja Ilenic just brought over to MLS side NYCFC from Slovenian club NK Domzale this winter for a €1 million transfer fee. He is joined by another exciting young player in 21-year-old defensive midfielder Adrian Zeljkovic who has Europa Conference League experience with his Slovakian club Spartak Trnava.

Slovenia possible starting lineup (4-4-2): Pintol (GK) — Karnicnik, Karic, Zec, Ilenic — Sturm, Zeljkovic, Elsnik, Repas — Poplatnik, Vombergar.
